Range calculator

Determine the range of any set using the range calculator. This mathematical tool dissects and analyzes the data completely to find the measures of central tendency along with the ascending order of entries.

This calculator will find the mean, median, mode, range, total numbers, and ascending order of the given set of numbers.

What is the range?

In the simplest terms, the range of a set of data is the difference between the highest (maximum) and the lowest (minimum) values. It gives an idea of the spread of the data, which essentially indicates how much the data is spread out or varies.

The range can be particularly useful when you want a quick snapshot of the data distribution without getting into more complicated statistical methods.

However, it's also important to note that the range is a measure of dispersion that is heavily influenced by outliers. An extremely high or low value can skew the range and not give a truly representative measure of spread for the majority of the data.

Range formula:

Range = Max - Min

How to find the range?

Calculating the range is a straightforward process. Here are the steps:

Identify the Minimum and Maximum Values: The first step to finding the range of a set of data is identifying the minimum and maximum values within the set.

Subtract the Minimum Value from the Maximum Value: Once you've identified the minimum and maximum values, subtract the minimum value from the maximum value. The result of this calculation is the range.

For example, consider a data set: 5, 12, 3, 7, 9, 14. In this case, the minimum value is 3, and the maximum value is 14. Hence, the range would be 14 - 3 = 11.
